Mother's Day~What are you doing?

If you are a daughter/son, what are you doing for your mom for Mother's Day?

If you are a mom, what do you want to do or receive for Mother's Day?

Bubba and I haven't decided what we are going to do this year.  I'd love to go home again and see my Mom and Grandma just to visit.  Maybe make some homemade ice cream.  I haven't got a clue what to get them.  Last year I cross stitched Mom this great little picture and got it framed for her.

She picked it out.  It was a simple design but I loved doing it.  She loved the quote and I thought it was funny!

Battle of Byron May 1st

I've gone to this a couple of times.  It's got a real sweet, small town air to it.  It's not big and won't take you long to walk around and see everything but it's worth the effort to go.  It's in downtown Byron in the Jailhouse Park.  Go support some of the local vendors!

If you are bored and want to see something super cute then stop by Second Baptist Church's Victory Fields (the ball fields across from the main church building) and watch the 4 & 5 year olds play!!!  I'm telling you it is just, absolutely darling!  I've actually seen one of the kids put his helmet on backwards and run the bases.  Sometimes they run towards 3rd instead of 1st.  This year, one of the kids ran to the pitchers mound instead of 1st or 3rd!!!  How adorable is that?!?  While there stop by the concession stand for one of Mr. Steve's famous burgers or hot dogs for only $1.  Boiled peanuts, french fries, bubble gum, Coke, and a snow cone (or something similar).  It's baseball season at Second Baptist!  You might see me but you will definitely see my Bubba if you stop by.  He's the tall, thin man in the big hat that keeps the sun off his face.  :-)

What else is going on tomorrow?

Free Diapers for a Year

Go HERE and enter to win free diapers and wipes for a year from Parents.com.   Obviously not my cup of tea since I don't have kids but I hear one of the most expensive parts of having a baby is the diapers.  This would be nice for any of you new or soon to be parents out there.  Good luck!

Friday~Mega Swagbucks Day

Fridays are Mega Swagbucks days so use that toolbar to do searches.  You could win 100 Swagbucks!  Wouldn't that be nice?!?  Thanks to y'all I have 8 $5 Amazon e-gift cards and enough points for #9.  I didn't know there is a limit of 4 Swagstore transactions per month so I have to wait until Saturday to redeem e-gift card #9.  :-)

If you don't have a clue what I'm talking about OR you are a hold out thinking this is too good to be true, go HERE to check it out.  A week or so ago I posted screen shots of my gift cards and my Amazon account so you could see that this is for real.  Have a great day and if you win 100 Swagbucks or more I'd love to hear about it so I can celebrate with you!

Aquafina House Party

I received my "party package" from Aquafina today.  It was a little strange to me especially since this is my first party pack and my first house party.  I got the coupons to give to my friends: 10-$1 off Aquafina FlavorSplash 6 packs.  I got the lip gloss: 11 sticks of Aquafina lip gloss (one for me and the rest for friends).  This is the odd part:  I got 10 individual sized bags of Stacy's Pita chips and a coupon for a full size free bag.  I am now going to make spinach dip and a have a bowl of fruit for my guests.  :-)  I also received 75 cards to try some music downloading site for a 2 week free trial with 35 free downloads.  That is 35 free songs!  I will difinitely have to look into this.

I am looking forward to the get together.  Now I just need to clean my house...anyone want to help?!?

Restaurant.com~Ends TODAY

Jessica B. emailed me to let me know about a deal that ends today at Restaurant.com.  You can buy a gift card to select restaurants for up to 80% off.  This means that a $25 gift card will cost you $2...now that is a good deal!

***READ THE FINE PRINT***  This is a great deal and I will not take away from that however you need to read the fine print with this deal.  Some of the gift cards require you to spend $50 in order to use the $25 gift card.  Others add the gratuity to the check PRIOR to the discount, etc., etc.  So, go to the website, check the restaurants in your zip code OR the zip code of where you are headed for summer vacation (Jessica did Chattanooga and Destin since that is where she is headed).  Remember, it's today only.

Enter discount code: MEAL to get up to 80% off.

Thanks Jessica B.!!!

Mrs. Bubba

PS - I love my readers!!!  Thanks for sending me the deals I miss.  Keep them coming!  Y'all are the best!!!

His Word Wednesday

There are two books in my library that are almost as worn as the most worn out Bible I own.  I turn to them over and over again.  In fact, it's probably time to read them again.  There are 2 books, outside of the Bible, that I think anyone who did not grow up in church should read.  One of them should be read by everyone.

Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers is the book I recommend for anyone who did not grow up in church.  Outside of the Bible, if you want to know whether or not God loves you in spite of where you have been and what you have done this book is a wonderful, fictional, depiction of His deep and abiding love for each of us!  When I first accepted Christ as my Savior and Lord of my life I, seemingly, was surrounded by folks who had been in church their whole lives and had definitely NOT lived a life similar to mine.  They couldn't articulate who a Holy, Almighty, sinless God could love someone like me.  Francine Rivers tackled that task with grace and ended up writing one of my all time favorite books.  Redeeming Love is based on Hosea an Old Testament book in the Bible where a man of God marries a prostitute.  One of the many lessons we are to learn from Hosea is that God never gives up on us.  No matter how many times we turn our back on Him and His love, He continues to be steadfast in His love for us.

I have read many more books written by Francine Rivers and they are all very well done but my favorite will always be Redeeming Love.  When you read the book this statement will make sense: I am Angel and pray that one day I will be Sarah!

The other book that has has a major impact on my life is No Wonder They Call Him The Savior by Max Lucado.  This is another book I read early on in my Christian walk.  Max Lucado is one of those authors who can take a complex thought/idea and turn it into "plain English" so I can understand it.  He is a colorful author and by that I mean he paints word pictures so that someone like me can visualize exactly what he is saying.  My copy of No Wonder They Call Him The Savior is underlined, corners of pages are turned down, there are tears on many of the pages...in a word, it is lovingly used!  This book is not comforting but it is encouraging.  The way Mr. Lucado describes the anguish between Father and Son when for the first time, ever, they were separated...I am still in awe.  When I need to be reminded of what Jesus went through in order to pay the price for my mistakes/sins, besides the Bible, this is the book I turn to.  When I want to be reminded that I am loved beyond measure, besides the Bible, this is the book I re-read.

I have read many books by Max Lucado and they have all been excellent however No Wonder They Call Him The Savior is my favorite and one I highly recommend.

I am not recommending that you read these books in lieu of your Bible.  In fact, if you aren't reading your Bible then I encourage you to do that first BEFORE reading these books because both authors reference the Bible.  If you don't know what your Bible says then these books may not make complete sense until you go back and...READ YOUR BIBLE!  :-)  If you want to read Redeeming Love then read Hosea, the Old Testament prophet first.  If you wish to read No Wonder They Call Him The Savior then read Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John (New Testament).  The books do stand alone but knowing where the authors got their inspiration from will make reading them much more relevant and enjoyable.

What is God saying to you?  What is your favorite book in the Bible?  Do you have a favorite Christian author or book?

Coming Soon~End of Month Totals

I definitely went over the budgeted amount this month but I will still be transparent in my reporting.  Knowing that you are looking over my shoulder has kept my overspending to a minimum.  I haven't done any year-to-date break downs but maybe I haven't busted the budget as badly as I think I have.  I am looking forward to crunching the numbers and sharing them with you!  I will also be updating you on our trip to Israel and how the savings are going there.

Has anyone reduced their grocery bill in the past couple of months?  I would love to hear how you did it!  Success stories are such an encouragement to everyone who reads this blog.  We would all love to hear yours!  Maybe you don't have a success story but a situation in which you learned more about how to use your coupons.  We'd love to hear that too.  Can't wait to hear from you!

Target & CVS~Quick Runs

Target trip yesterday.  Total spent was $1.78.

What I bought:
1-Merona hobo purse
2-OFF! Clip on
1-GE Energy Saver light bulb
1-Crest 3D Vivid White toothpaste
1-Welch's Fruit Snacks (I'm addicted!!!)

Total before discounts and coupons:  $28.98

Coupons used:
1-$5 off Merona purse Target Store Q
1-BOGO OFF! Clip on Manufacturer Q
1-$2 OFF! Manufacturer Q
2-$2 OFF! Target Store Q
1-$2 off GE Energy Saver Target Store Q
1-$1 off GE Energy Saver Manufacturer Q
1-$1 off Crest 3D Vivid Target Store Q
1-$1.50 off Crest 3D Vivid Manufacturer Q

The Merona purse was on clearance for $2.50.  The OFF! Clip On was on sale for $7.99 each.  Tax was .86.  Not a bad trip at all.  Target is supposed to reduce the amount of a coupon to match the actual price of the product however, every time I've explained that the coupon needed to be reduced the cashier has looked at me with that glazed over look.  Then they call the cashier manager over and neither one of them knows how to reduce the coupons.  I don't understand why Target's coupon policy states that they need to reduce the coupon down since Target will be reimbursed for the full amount of the coupon!

CVS trip yesterday.  Total paid:  $1.26.

What I purchased:
2-Bags CVS brand Vitamin C cough drops
4-CVS brand toothbrushes
2-Oral B Advantage toothbrushes

Total before discounts and coupons:  $29.85

Coupons used:
4-$1 off CVS brand toothbrush Store Q
1-BOGO Oral B Advantage Manufacturer Q
1-$2 off Oral B Manufacturer Q
$8 ECB (Extra Care Bucks)

The CVS toothbrushes are normally $3.99 and were on sale for $.99 each.  Those cough drops are our favorite to use because we sing in the choir.  I've tried the menthol ones since I have several free bags but they just don't work the same as these.  Also, the CVS brand is our favorite!

Yesterday I got around $50 worth of merchandise for about $4.  Not a bad day at all!

Mailer-ValPak

I got my ValPak mailer yesterday.  I always open it, stand over the trash can, and throw each ad away one by one as I glance at them.  I don't believe I have ever used or wanted to use anything they have sent me.  However, there were 2 things that caught my attention this time!  The first was a chance to win $5000 for a home improvement project.  Head over HERE for your chance to enter (it's down on the right hand side).   The second was the notice for the Letter Carriers' Food Drive.  Saturday, May 8, if you place a bag of non-perishable items by your mailbox your letter carrier will pick it up and it will be donated to a food bank in your area.

Swag Code in the Toolbar

There is a Swag Code in the toolbar right now.  It's good until 4:30 PDT and is worth 6 Swagbucks.  Don't know what SwagBucks or a Swag Code is?  Go HERE to find out more and to sign up for your own Swagbucks account.  I've had mine for about 3-4 months and already earned enough for 9 $5 Amazon e-gift cards.  All I did was download the toolbar and search like I normally do through Swagbucks instead of another search engine.

Target Trip

I ran by Target yesterday for a quick trip.  I had a few coupons burning a whole in my coupon holder.

What I bought:
8-Benadryl Itch Sticks $2.22 each
1-6 pack Merona ankle socks $5

Coupons used:
4-$5/2 any Benadryl
1-$2 off Merona hosiery

Total with tax:  $2.16 (the tax was $1.45 of that total)

I put 4 of the Benadryl itch sticks up in our stockpile because fro some reason mosquitoes think I am a bowl of sugar water or just a bowl of blood for their taking and every summer I can barely step outside without being eaten alive.  The other 4 went into our "Cheerful Giver" box to be donated.

Blessing Closet~An Opportunity to Give Out of Your Abundance

Calling all couponers in the Middle Georgia area:

Do you have 15 tubes of toothpaste more than your family can use in a year or 2?  What about deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, pain relievers, etc.?  Non-perishable food, etc.?  If you have tons of extras laying around your house because of your coupon addiction and stockpiling habits and you are ready to put them to good use, here is your opportunity!

Second Baptist Church Warner Robins (SBC) is hosting several Foreign Missionaries for their Global Impact Celebration in November of this year.  They will be flying the Missionary and his wife to Georgia and then transporting them to Warner Robins where they will be staying with families in the church.  They will then spend the week answering all kinds of questions about their ministries and telling the people of SBC everything they can about their ministry.  These folks will not be Americans that are out on the foreign mission field but actual Nationals from their own country.  For example, they recently hosted an African missionary from South Africa.  He was born and raised in the country to which he ministers.

Part of what SBC hopes to accomplish while the Missionaries are here is to bless them with items that they probably can't afford, can't have access to, etc.  They also want to bless them with necessities so that the Missionary and his family can focus on ministry instead of where they might get the next bar of soap or a Tylenol, etc.  Second Baptist will be stockpiling something called a "Blessing Closet" with new clothing, shoes, computers, printers, technology accessories, TVs, CD players, projectors, new toys, toothpaste, soap, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, non-perishable food items, pain relievers, crayons, markers, school supplies, lotions, etc.  Before SBC takes the Missionary back to the airport, he and his wife will get to "shop" in the Blessing Closet for the items that they need most and everything will be at NO COST to them!  I am not sure how shipping will work out if it is necessary to ship an item back to the Missionary's home but I suspect that the people at SBC will work out something to get it to them any way they can.

What if there are items left over?  Any left over items that can be used by Lighthouse, a home for troubled teenaged girls, will be donated to them.  Any other items will be donated to the appropriate places so that there is no item not being used to bless someone or some ministry less fortunate than you or I.  Second Baptist will not keep anything.

Even if you aren't a church attender or a Christian, you can still feel good about giving.  You will be giving to folks who have, quite literally, the clothes on their backs.  Americans, even some of the poorest among us, are richer than most people in the world.  Americans, because of their awareness, are also the most generous people in the world.

Here is the who, what, when, and where:

Who: Everyone who has extra NEW items like those listed above
What: Given to the Blessing Closet to be distributed by Global Impact Celebration participants
When: Donations will be accepted between now and November 1, 2010
Where: Drop off locations are the office of Second Baptist Church Warner Robins (click link to get address off website) and _________(when I get the name of the location I will update this post)
**When dropping items off please let them know it is for the Blessing Closet.  If you    drop it off at SBC and Brad Jones is available then give the items to him, letting him know they are for the Blessing Closet.**

I am filling up my "Cheerful Giver" box in my kitchen already!  I have toilet paper (free from CVS), deodorants, Benadryl for bug bites, etc. already in the box and waiting for me to take them up to Brad.
I will re-post this a few times between now and then so we can remember to hold onto those extra items so we can give them away!

Standing on His promises,
Mrs. Bubba

ZipLine & Canopy Tour

We did it!  We headed over to West Georgia to check out the Historic Banning Mills Zipline & Canopy Tour.  We did the Full Extreme Tour for $139 per person.  They have 2 other tours for less money...and less zip lines.  The reason it is called a Zipline & Canopy Tour is because between ziplines are bridges.  They keep you in the trees for most of the tour either on the ziplines or cable bridges.

Okay, now for the brutally honest part:  I AM afraid of heights.  I road the farris wheel with my niece about a month ago and my stomach did flips every time we went around.  She would have stood up and leaned out to holler at everyone if I wasn't constantly saying, "Sit down honey, I don't want you to fall out."  Why did I agree to the zipline tour?  Because I didn't know exactly what I was getting myself into and that was a good thing.  The first zipline you do is a medium sized one, they don't let you start out on a little one.  As hard as it was to take the first step off each tower that didn't compare to the crossing those cable bridges.  Those I could not stand.  If the tour had been ziplines only then I would have had a good time (not great...my stomach still doesn't like heights) but the cable bridges, those got to my nerves pretty bad.  Especially the really long, really thin, really wobbly one that spanned across the Snake River.  Ugh, I get queasy just thinking about it!

Do I recommend taking the Tour?  Absolutely!  Go, go, go.  I am very glad I went.  I don't want to cross another cable bridge...ever but I am still glad I went.  By the way, there is a ton more to do at Historic Banning Mills than just the ziplines.  I've seen the reviews of their breakfasts and can't wait to go back and give that a try!

They offer all kinds of lodging from primitive camp sites all the way up to full service suites or cabins.  The rolling hills of West Georgia are beautiful any time of year and this April was no exception.  Head over HERE and check it out for yourself.

Belk Charity Days

I don't know everything about how this works but what I do know is that last year I got a fantastic deal on a couple pair of Yellow Box flip flops (my favorites but they are a little pricey).  You go to Belk and buy a $5 "ticket" that goes to support the charity of Belk's choice that year.  You take that ticket with you on the date of the sale and you get $5 off your purchase.  The great thing is Belk has a sale the day of the charity event including several items they normally don't discount, like Yellow Box.  See your store for more details.  The charity day is May 1 so hurry and get your "ticket".

Headed Out Of Town

We are headed to west Georgia to go camping and to try out a Zipline adventure at Historic Banning Mills (in between Carrollton and Atlanta).   I am SO excited!  That's our sweet, old pop up camper that we just adore.  Surprisingly, it's been one of the best purchases of our married life.  We haven't been camping since Thanksgiving and we try to go once a month or so.  Due to saving up for the trip to Israel we have not gone anywhere or done anything.  Thanks to all the money we are saving during this grocery challenge we have a little extra money set aside in order to enjoy this trip (debt free)!  :-)

So, I'll be offline this weekend.  I apologize for the deals that won't be posted and for not getting the coupon insert list up for you.  I'll be back at it on Monday.  While I'm gone, I would love to hear from you!  Will you share with me the best deal you have found this year?  Or maybe you walked into a store not expecting much and walking out with a whole stash that you spent pocket change on?

CoverGirl Make Up .15 Per Bottle

I ran to Kroger tonight to pick up last minute items for our weekend getaway.  We are camping and my hubby loves his eggs, bacon, and grits in the morning to go with his coffee.  Anyway, at my Kroger there is a place where they put a couple carts and shelves and place all clearance items in them.  I always glance over the items to see if there is anything worth grabbing and matching up with a great coupon.  I'm talking .50 or less kind of stuff.  I lucked out tonight.  There is a box of various CoverGirl makeup (powder, liquid, and lipstick).  I grabbed 6 bottles of liquid makeup going for $1.29 each, pulled out 3 BOGO coupons and 3 $1 off coupons.  This brought the total for 6 bottles .87 or .15 each.  Now, that's not bad for 6 bottles of CoverGirl makeup!  I put them in my Giving Box.

I found them at the Kroger on Hwy. 96 in Warner Robins.  There are other CoverGirl items still in the box.  I was too tired to really, really, really go through it and my coupons.  :-)

First Giveaway

I cannot contain my excitement!!!!  I will be hosting my very first giveaway in the next couple of weeks!!!!  I am talking with a local business and she has agreed to be the first one to give something away to the folks here in Middle Georgia.  You won't be disappointed!  Spread the word about the blog so that we can have a good turnout for what she is giving away and stay tuned.

This will be for local Middle Georgians only.  I know a few of my wonderful readers are not local folks so I will be in search of a giveaway that will include you next time.  :-)

Stockpile Pictures

I have talked about stockpiling so I thought I would show you a few of my stashes.  :-)

This is body washes for men, contact solutions, shampoos, and conditioners.  I ran out of room under the sinks in the bathroom so I had to clear out a shelf in my linen closet.

This is the same shelf with toothpastes, tampons (that is NOT my full stash of those...this is overflow), and body lotions.

Hand soap, lotions, Excedrin (you can't see it but it's there), Benedryl, and in the back corner are a bunch of free samples or the free travel size items that you can occasionally pick up at Target or Publix.

Those Easter egg colored things are my deodorants (Dove Ultimate and Secret), you see Bubba's deodorant, body washes, razors, and toothbrushes.

Got a great price on Lysol toilet cleaner a couple months ago and then the free Scrubbing Bubbles from the past couple of weeks.

A view of a few of the Powerades I purchased while on sale at Kroger and then Publix.  We have close to or around 100 of them.  I sure hope that lasts him the summer!

This is our ministry box.  Whatever we won't use or have an OVER abundance of goes into this box to be distributed as needs arise.  I am no artist but I didn't want to have this huge cardboard box sitting at my "breakfast bar" and folks not know what it was for.  This idea came from one of the other blogging ladies so it is not original.  When my sister, Sunshine, visits again I may get her to give the box an artistic makeover.

This is what is in the box at the moment.  Those are small men's deodorants, D1000 vitamins, men's body washes, shampoo, conditioner, 4 rolls toilet paper, razors, Zantac, and toothpaste.  All of these items were free or under .50.  This is the joy of couponing to me!  To have this stock of stuff that when a need arises or a ministry says "Come and help", we are ready to give.  All to the glory of God!  He has brought this world of couponing into my life for 2 reasons: 1-so I can care for my family while being a good steward (manager) of the money He has given us AND 2-so we can give to those who are hurting or in need.  Before coupons we were not able to do as much as we do today.  We would hear about a need and go out and buy one or two things to give.  The reason we only bought 1 or 2 is because we still had to provide for our family.  Now, because of coupons, deals, and stockpiling we can give and give.

For my couponing friends out there in cyberspace, there is a fantastic opportunity to give coming in the future.  Once I have all the details I will pass them on to you.  In the mean time, if it's free-grab it and hold on to it, even if you think you will never ever use it.  If it's free, grab it!  There are others who will need it that you can bless.  Even if you aren't a church attender or a Christian you can still be a part of this ministry that I will talk about in the near future.  So, Middle Georgia couponers:  go get that free stuff and hold onto it!  I'll share more once I have all the details.

$10 Book Deal-Dave Ramsey

I am a HUGE fan of Dave Ramsey and his debt-free living plan.  Several years ago, I told my Bubba "Why don't we have any money?  You make a good living, a steady income, we live in a small house, drive paid for cars and yet I can't find $20-25 to buy a pair of jeans!"  Frustration didn't cover what was going on in my mind over our finances.  It was about that time that I started hearing about this crazy guy in Tennessee who talked about living debt-free.  Dave Ramsey has a FICO score of ZERO!  He hasn't borrowed money in nearly 20 years.  He's got a great testimony about how God brought him to where he is today and I enjoy listening to him on the radio.  He's a "rubber meets the road" kind of guy.  His steps are simple and easy to understand.  For us, it was just a matter of learning how to create and stick to a budget.  For others, they are drowning in thousands and thousands of dollars in debt and his steps help them climb out.  The point to all of this is: you are reading this blog to get deals and do better at the grocery store, what better way than being debt-free!  Bubba and I couldn't save for the trip to Israel if we had car payments or student loans or credit card debt to pay off.  Do you even KNOW where your money goes each pay period?  We didn't but we do now, thanks to Dave Ramsey and his Baby Steps.

If you want someone to walk with you and help explain Dave Ramsey's debt-free plan then head over HERE and find out more about someone in this area who can help you.

Right now, Dave Ramsey's books are $10 each.  This is a bargain!  Head over HERE to see what he has to offer.  Want to know more about Dave Ramsey?  Head over HERE and check out his website.

Do you shop at Kroger?  If you do then you need to sign up for Cellfire.  It is a company that sends coupons to your Kroger Loyalty card.  The great thing about coupons sent to your Kroger card is that you can ALSO use a paper coupon for the same product.  The bad thing is that e-coupons can only be used once and then they are gone.  So, head over HERE and sign up for Cellfire and download your coupons today.

I did this deal Monday afternoon.  Head over to Smart Couponing and check it out.  She has it all laid out so you can follow the directions step by step.

I printed out 4-$5 off coupons for vitamins.  I bought each one in an individual transaction.  I bought 4 D1000 vitamin for $5 each, used the $5 off coupon, paid .34 each, and received $5 RR (register rewards).  Now I have $20 RR to spend on anything at Walgreens!

7-$5 Amazon e-Gift Cards

The first picture is a screen shot of my SwagBucks account.  Showing the 7 $5 Amazon e-gift cards I have redeemed with my SwagBucks.  The second picture is my Amazon account where I "deposited" the $5 e-Gift Cards.

I am showing this to you so you can see that it is real.  You really earn SwagBucks and they really send you the reward you turn your SwagBucks in for.  I have $35 sitting in my Amazon account just waiting for me to buy something.  I am on a few SwagBucks away from e-gift card #8.  This is, by far, one of my favorite internet "programs".  The only thing that I did extra was download the search/toolbar.  I search for everything: gmail, facebook, my bank, pictures to post on here, etc.

Go HERE to sign up yourself.  What are you waiting for?  :-)

CVS Trip this morning

I ran into CVS before heading into work this morning.  They have Crest ProHealth toothpaste on sale for $1.88 a tube and I had a few $150 off Crest ProHealth coupons.  I am okay with paying .38 for a tube of toothpaste and I do prefer Crest over other brands (although I am willing to give others a try if they want to send me a free sample).  When I walked in the door of CVS I went straight to the scan machine to see what coupons awaited me this week!  Here is what I got:

$2 off $6 purchase of gift bags, wrap, or bows
$3/2 Snickers, M&Ms or Dove bags 8.5oz or larger
$5 off $40 purchase
$1 off Dove Ultimate Clear Deodorant (you know I'm loving this one)

Don't forget to scan your CVS card every time you stop in the store, you never know what coupons will come out!

Reader Question~Coupon Stacking

So you can use multiple coupons for the same items? Or am I looking at this wrong? I am just trying to figure out how to get my grocery bill down like this. ~ Christy

Christy~Great question!  Can I just tell y'all, I'm loving the fact that there are those out there willing to ask questions.  I don't know what I need to explain if no one asks questions.  Christy, thank you very much for this question.  I will do my best to explain.

You CAN use more than one coupon per product at certain stores.  For example: if you get a Publix "store" coupon and you have a manufacturer coupon for the same product, then you can STACK them to save even more money...at PUBLIX.

This is a Publix store coupon.  If you look where the blue and purple arrows are pointing, there are no bar codes.  There aren't any bar codes on the back either.  These coupons are only good at Publix and they are found in Publix booklets most of the time.  On occasion I have seen them in the Sunday paper.

This is a manufacturer coupon (mani Q).  There are 2 bar codes on it, see the red arrow is pointing at one and the yellow arrow is pointing at another.  One bar code is used at the store so the computer (cash register) recognizes it and takes off the correct amount.  The other bar code is used at what is called a "clearing house".  The clearing house is where all the coupons are sent so that the store (Publix, CVS, Kroger, RiteAid, Target, etc.) gets reimbursed for accepting the coupon.

If the Publix store coupon above and the manufacturer coupon to the left were for the same product, you could use BOTH of them on ONE product, giving you a very nice discount.

This is a Target store coupon that was printed off the internet.  The green arrow is pointing to the Target logo and the pink arrow is pointing to the Target bar code...notice there is only ONE bar code.  That is an indication that it is a store coupon and NOT a manufacturer coupon.   You would be able to use one of these coupons AND a manufacturer coupon on the purchase of one product.  This is called stacking coupons.  Target coupons are valid at Target Stores and if your Publix considers Target to be a competitor, then at Publix too.  If you are not sure who your Publix considers to be a competitor then the next time you are in the store, stop by Customer Service and ask the manager or call and speak to the manager.

Here is where it sometimes gets tricky and this is why we, as coupon users, need to pay attention.  This is a manufacturer coupon.  Even though it has the Publix logo on it, it has TWO bar codes and clearly states to the right of the yellow arrow "Manufacturer Coupon" on it.  See the pink arrow is pointing to bar code #1 and the yellow arrow is pointing to bar code #2.  You can use this coupon almost anywhere.  CVS does not accept them because of the Publix logo but I've used these or coupons like them with Kroger logos on them at Target, RiteAid, etc.  It is a manufacturer coupons and, for the most part, should be accepted anywhere that accepts coupons.

An example of stacking is the Scrubbing Bubbles example from an earlier post.  There is a $5 mani Q and a $3 Publix store Q.  One Scrubbing Bubbles spray kit is $7.99.  Use the $5 mani Q PLUS the $3 store Q and you are looking at a free Scrubbing Bubbles spray kit (but you will pay the tax)!  The great thing is, a couple of days ago there was an internet printable coupon (ip Q):  Buy 1 Scrubbing Bubbles starter kit, get a refill Free.   Here's how it would look if you did the transaction:

1-Scrubbing Bubbles Starter Kit $7.99
1-Scrubbing Bubbles refill $3.99

Coupons:
1-$3 off Scrubbing Bubbles starter kit (Publix store Q)
1-$5 off Scrubbing Bubbles starter kit (mani Q)
1-Buy 1 Scrubbing Bubbles starter kit, get Refill free (mani Q)

Total out of pocket spent:  $0+tax

Total before coupons:  $11.98+tax

I will talk about stacking coupons at Walgreens, CVS, and RiteAid in another post.  Christy, I hope this helps as you work towards that goal of reducing your grocery bill!

Busted Budget This Month

I busted the budget this month with my trip to Publix this morning.  It's for a good cause but it still makes me sad.  Bubba has planned a weekend getaway for the 2 of us because he needs time away.  This time of year is stressful on him and our marriage (because I rarely see him) due to his responsibilities and activities.  It's this time of year that I understand what all you mom's go through with kids going in 5 different directions.  On top of his regular commitments (job, choir, etc.) is the Director of Upward Baseball/Softball, he maintains the softball/baseball fields, plays adult softball with one the church teams, AND is preparing for his mission trip to the Ukraine.  Unbelieveable all that he takes on during this time of year.  So, he put together a camping weekend to a place we've been wanting to try out (not the camping but the activity).  We are going on this zip line tour thing.  You can check it out HERE.  Historic Banning Mills is between Atlanta and Carrollton in West Georgia.

All of that to say this:  I have no intention of updating while we are away (sorry folks!).  I won't have the coupon inserts for next Sunday.  I'll get them up as soon as I can but you will have them already.  :-)  Also, the busted budget:  I bought several steaks...you can't camp without steaks...and a few other things that busted the budget.  I haven't spent that much at the grocery store in nearly a year!  It hurt but it's for a good cause.  Got to take care of the hubby and spoil him while I get some undivided attention from him during our trip.  I'm rambling so I'm going to stop now.

Mrs. Bubba
