Printing Pictures

Do you have pictures sitting in your camera or computer that you are wishing to have printed?  Well, now is the time.  Walgreens has a deal going that you can print photos for 50% off the usual price.  Use code TREAT at checkout and then update your cart and you will see the savings.

I was excited to see this since we just got back and have almost 1000 pictures from our trip.  I sent them all the Walgreens to be printed...now I'm ready to scrapbook them all.  :-)

Christmas Shopping

I don't know if you folks are into this kind of thing but in Macon there is "Christmas Made In The South".  They have tons of booths set up with all kinds of crafts, trees, wreaths, ornaments, and various handmade gifts.  I have been a few times and loved it!

For those of you with high end taste you can head down to the fairgrounds in Perry for the "Mistletoe Market".  I can't afford what they sell but maybe you can and they definitely have some 1 of a kind gifts.

I believe both are this weekend.  I think you know which direction I'll be heading in if I have the time!  :-)

New Groove

Getting back into the routine of life in Middle Georgia is proving to be more difficult than I imagined.  1) I don't want to be here, I literally left my heart in Jerusalem.  2) November is crazy busy for us.  3)  I didn't pig out or anything while on the tour but I didn't have to watch every little thing I ate.  Now that we are back and I am using the weight loss program again, I am hungry all the time!  I know it will subside but it takes a week or two which is just awful.  I drink gallons of water (a slight exaggeration) but for now it's not helping.  I honestly believe the only reason I am not chowing down on something right this second is because I am sitting here in a pair of dress slacks that I haven't fit into in months.  Not only could I wear them but they are ever so slightly loose!!!  As hungry as I am, I have the fact that I have already lost 15 lbs to motivate me to not eat.  I'll eat a healthy, reasonable dinner tonight.  Tomorrow with the aid of exercise I will have wiggle room in my calorie intake.  Until then, I think its time for some more water.

Four Weeks of Newspapers

I thought that when we got home that there would be an enormous number of coupons to clip.  We get 2 papers delivered every Sunday, multiply that by 4 weeks and you have 8 newspapers and their corresponding coupons.  Today I sat down and started clipping thinking that it would take me more than a day to get through them all.  Not so, I was done in an hour or 2!  I am, once again, reminded of the fact that we just don't get a lot of coupons here in the Middle GA area...I wonder if my Grandma kept her coupons for me!  :-)

NYC, Israel, Jordan and Back Again

I am, once again, sitting in my living room.  We have been on the trip of a lifetime so all the coupon clipping was worth every effort!  We had an unbelievable experience in Israel and I didn't want to come back.  One day I hope to make Jerusalem my hometown!  I already know where I would go to church too.

I am a little rusty on the coupon thing but know I will get to catch up tomorrow.  We put our mail and newspapers on hold while we were gone so I expect to receive about 6 papers tomorrow.  I hope there are some good coupons in them.

Until I am back into the swing of things, are there any current deals that I need to know about?  I am completely out of the loop!

Speaking of deals:  my hubby needed a prescription filled when we got back so I trotted off to CVS.  When I went in the store I did what I always do and scanned my CVS card.  One of the coupons that printed out was Get a $25 GC with a new prescription so headed to the pharmacy to pick up his Rx and got my free $25 GC!  Not bad for being back in the USA for a couple days.  :-)  Did anyone else get this deal?  Did anyone get some photos at Walgreens?  They were .10 a print this week.  We took nearly 1000 pictures while we were gone so I jumped in on that deal but only for the nearly 300 pictures we took in NYC.  I'll have to wait for the next deal to get the Mid East pictures developed.  Until then I'll be scrapbooking our Big Apple memories.

I've missed you folks and look forward to catching up with you all.  If you would be so kind as to catch me up on the best deals around town until I can get back on my "feet" that would be wonderful!

Belks Charity Days Sale

This is my favorite sale that Belks has.  Not only do you get great prices on just about everything in the store but some great charities get to raise funds as well.  I got the email to save the date so I want to pass it on to you!  Mark your calendars!

You buy a $5 ticket, that is your pass to savings in the store.  You shop as usual and when you check out, along with great sale prices, you also get $5 off your total!  The $5 goes to a local charity.  I call it shopping for a good cause.  :-)  Like we need a reason to go shopping.

Winn Dixie Closing Their Doors

http://marketconcepts.us/winn%20dixie.jpg
The Winn Dixie on Highway 96 in Bonaire is closing their doors.  Take your coupon binder with you and search the aisles for good deals.  They are marking things down so some good deals are probably to be had if you have the time to look for them!

I anticipated this being a slow month since Bubba was in the Ukraine for 10 days.  I didn't do nearly the shopping that I normally do and I haven't gotten back into the routine yet.  These numbers are a little skewed since I use the Publix Gift Card that I won when I head over there.  I've used just under $25 out of the $250 and bought $122.28 worth of groceries.  Still have my sights set on $700 worth of groceries for $250!
How did you do this month?  What is the best deal you came across?  My favorite deal this past month was all the free Smart Balance milk!  Smart Balance is my milk and it is expensive so finding a deal that made it free was such a blessing.

??? From A Reader

 http://petersonpc.com/Images/question%20mark.png
Hi,
I found your blog from google and southernsavers.com and thought you might know the answer.  I purchased a Houston Home Journal today (Saturday's edition), but it did not include the P&G insert.  Was I just unlucky, or do they not include that insert?  BTW, it did include both the RP and SS inserts.

I'm trying to find the most cost-effective way to gather more inserts.  I am new to the couponing world and a bit overwhelmed right now!

Thanks,

Lisa

Lisa,

The HHJ doesn't always carry the P&G insert.  You weren't jipped it wasn't in the HHJ this week.  The Macon Telegraph has the P&G insert.  I would get the HHJ on the weeks when there isn't a P&G insert and then a Macon Telegraph on the weeks when there is one.  There is a schedule of inserts on my blog.

I've been told, but haven't done it myself, that you can go to Happy Hour (recycling) on Monday's and gather a few more coupon inserts for free.  That might be an option if you have the time.  Now, that is all I know about that because I haven't done it.  You might want to call them tomorrow if that is something you are interested in.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.  :-)

Before I post my totals from the month of July, I would love to hear from you.  Did you save $5 for the first time or maybe you saved $50 this month?!?  Whatever your level of savings is it would be such an encouragement to hear from you.  You can cheer each other on and share the best deal you got this month.  I don't know about you but I love to have folks out there encouraging me to keep it up.  Can't wait to hear from you!

New Muscles

This morning, as I fiddled around in the kitchen with the lights off and without my contacts in, I stepped on something extremely small but very painful.  Despite our best efforts to remove whatever it was that I stepped on it won't show itself or come out of my heel.  I have been forced to walk on the ball of my foot, in essence, using muscles that don't usually get used all that much.  As my calf muscles tighten with every step, letting me know that they aren't pleased with the extra use, I am reminded of my walk with Christ.

As Christians, we get used to doing things a certain way or at a particular time.  A little on the routine side of things.  We bow our heads and thank God for the food we will eat, we go to church at the same time on the same day of the week every week.  If you do a quiet time or personal Bible study time then it's probably the same time of day and about the same length of time each day.  Certain "muscles" get exercised more than others and things get easy or I get complacent.  Then life throws you a curve ball and you "step" on something unseen but it causes your world to turn upside down or just at a different angle or pace.  You are going to either reach deeper and use spiritual muscles that you haven't excersized recently or quit.  I asked myself a few questions today:

Do I REALLY thank God for the food I'm going to eat or is it just routine/tradition that I bow my head and say a few words?  You know, He's not looking for specific words over each meal....He sees our hearts and knows whether or not we are sincerely thankful for what He has given us.

When I lift people up in prayer is it because I really believe that God will hear my plea on their behalf or do I do it because I want to be able to say, "Hey, I prayed for you today!"

When I read my Bible, am I doing it so I can know Him more and to hear His voice or do I do it as part of my daily checklist?  Check, read my Bible.  Check, prayed for friends.  Check, went to Sunday School...

Do I serve Him because I want to or because it's the right thing to do?  What is my motivation?

I guess you can boil it all down to: what is my motivation?  Do I do what I do because I love Him, desire to be obedient, and wish to draw closer to Him?  OR do I do it because I think its what He wants me to do or because others are watching me?

There are seasons in our lives when we do these things out of routine and obedience but those routines and obedience should lead us back to passion and love for Him.  The dry seasons in our lives shouldn't be prolonged or permanent.

I thank God for little upsets in my life or routine.  Invisible things that I step in that cause me to use spiritual muscles that have lain dormant for awhile.  My heel is still throbbing from the tiny, unseen thing that is still stuck in it and my calf muscle is screaming at me but I am thankful for the Truth God has shown me through it.

But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty;--I Corinthians 1:27

End/Beginning of Month

Its that time again!  It's time to pull out the expired coupons and throw them out.  It's time to file away the new coupons you got this weekend.  A little housekeeping will go a long way in making your couponing experience a positive one.  So, no matter which coupon filing method you use it's time to do a little maintenance.  Happy couponing!

New Digital Camera!!!

It is with joy that I announce that we bought a new digital camera the other day!  I've been telling you all about SwagBucks and how I was collecting $5 Amazon e-gift cards to go towards this purchase and it has finally come to fruition.  Now, due to time constraints I was unable to wait until the camera was paid for in full with the gift cards but we did collect $85 that went towards it.  We are the proud owners of a Nikon Coolpix L110!  :-)  Woohoo!!!

Standing on His Promises, Mrs. Bubba

Quick Start Guide

If you have thought about couponing but think it is way too time consuming then this post is for you!  Saving your family money each month on your grocery bill is not as time consuming as you might think and couponing is not as complicated as it looks.  If you have never couponed before or you gave up because it was not organized and you never remembered to take the coupons to the store with you here is a quick way to get started:

1)  Pick up at least one newspaper Sunday.  The Houston Home Journal is available on Saturday and is .50 an issue.  The Macon Telegraph is, I believe, $1.50 an issue and MOST of the time they have the same coupons in both papers.

2)  Pull the coupon inserts out.  You will notice that there are, typically, 3 different inserts.  You will usually see a Smart Source and Red Plum insert each weekend.  Once a month there will be a P&G insert.  The USA Weekend and Parade magazine sometimes have coupons in them as well but not all the time.

3)  Use a 12 pocket accordion file and label each pocket with a month.

4)  If there are 2 inserts in this weekend's paper then you will need 2 envelopes (size really doesn't matter).  You can probably use letter sized.  On the outside, front of the 1st envelope write Sunday's date and Smart Source so you can easily read it.  Then take 5 minutes to cut out all the coupons in the Smart Source insert and put them in the envelope.  Do the same thing with the other envelope and the Red Plum insert.

5)  Once the coupons are all clipped and in the appropriate envelope, stick those envelopes in the August file of your accordion file.

6)  Now that you have clipped and filed your coupons head over to Southern Savers blog.  On her blog you click on your preferred grocery store, select the most recent list of sales items.  For example:  click on Publix and then find the blog entry that has the date 7/28 in the title because Publix's sales go from Wednesday to Tuesday for us.

7)  Once you have your store and the most recent sales list pulled up you will see each sales item listed and underneath the item will be a list of available coupons that go with that item.  You will not see ALL of those coupons.  A lot of coupons are regional.

8)  Go through Southern Savers list, click on the boxes beside the items you wish to purchase then at the bottom of the blog entry will be a button to click that says "Print List".  I would print the list just as it is with all the coupons listed out beneath it.

9)  Once you have your list in hand then pull out your accordion file, a paperclip, and pencil/pen.  If you look at the coupons listed underneath each sales item you will notice that they say how much the coupon is worth, the item it is good for (including any size restrictions), then it will state where the coupon came from followed by the expiration date.  If a coupon comes from Smart Source then it will be listed as SS 8/1.  This means that the coupon came from the Smart Source insert on August 1.  Pull out your Smart Source August 1 envelope, quickly go through the coupons and pull out the one you are looking for then paperclip it to the back of your list.  If a coupon comes from Red Plum then it will be listed as RP 8/1.  If a coupon comes from a P&G insert then it will be listed as PG 8/1.  If there is something on your list that you do not have the corresponding coupon for and you do not have to purchase it at that moment then use that pen/pencil to draw an X through it on your list.

10)  Now you are ready to head to the store!  Take your list, your coupons, your loyalty card, and your money.  You are, officially, a couponer!  :-)

After you have used this method for a while and you get comfortable with remembering to take your coupons to the store then you can move on to stockpiling, etc.

Now, go get that paper and start to clipping!
