One of my Favorite Sites

I was asked by a friend if I was really the one posting about SwagBucks or if it was like on FaceBook when you win a game and they automatically post your score or something like that.  Well, I AM the one posting about this website and what it is about.  There is not much on the internet that I am absolutely sold on but SwagBucks is one of those few things!  Honestly, I am asking:  why haven't you signed up for this yet?!?  Here's the link.

This is what I did, I signed up and created my account.  Then I downloaded the "toolbar" for my internet browser (I use FireFox 75% of the time and Safari the other 25%).  I downloaded toolbars for both versions.  This is how I "earn" points:

1)  Searches-I use the search box and do ALL of my searches through it because it will randomly award me with points throughout the day.  However, I will search for things I already have links for such as Facebook, gmail, SouthernSavers, IheartPublix, etc.  I don't do a whole lot of internet searching so in order to give myself more chances to earn points I search for websites I already use.

2) Ways To Earn tab-If you go to the SwagBucks homepage and look up near the top there is a "Ways to Earn" tab.  Supposedly, on a daily basis you can earn about 3 points.  This is how you do it.  Click on "Special Offers" then click on "View our no obligation offers".  I always click "skip" at the end of every offer and then when the last one is gone I am awarded my points.  You can do this daily but I don't always remember.

3) Follow them-SwagBucks is on Twitter, FaceBook, and they have a blog.  I, personally, do not do this because I don't have the time but you may.  Weekly, they will do a "contest" or a type of scavenger hunt for something called a SwagCode.  A SwagCode is typically a phrase that is mixed capital and lower case letters.  If you guess the SwagCode or find the SwagCode then you must enter it on the homepage exactly how you found it (they are case sensitive) and then you will be awarded the appropriate number of points.  Sometimes these are worth a lot of points but like I said earlier, I don't have the time.

4) Messages-After you download the toolbar you will see "From TSG [0]" at the top of your screen.  On occasion you will receive a message from TSG (The Swag Guy/Gal) and the message will give you a hint on where you can find a SwagCode or will straight out give you a SwagCode.  Take the SwagCode to the homepage and enter it to be credited your points!  The messages typically have deadlines so keep your eyes peeled for that one.

5)  Daily Polls-I visit the daily poll....daily.  They are cheesy and unimportant but take about 30 seconds to do and I get my 1 Swagbuck each day.

That is all the information I have at the moment but I can tell you, this is legitimate.  I have earned over 20 $5 Amazon Gift Cards.  Now, I know that is all I talk about is the Amazon GC but when you check it out go look at all the stuff you can get with your SwagBucks, there is more than Amazon GCs!  That is just what I want because I it gives me free things from Amazon!  :-)  So, stop procrastinating and head over HERE to sign up and start searching and earning!

Publix Trip

Yep, that's a picture of what I bought at Publix this morning.  I know, you can't see everything so I will still list it but it was so easy to pull everything out of my bags and set it on our oven to snap a shot of it, I just couldn't resist.  Don't get used to this!  I just wanted to pull out the camera for a minute.  I'm over it.  :-)
What I bought:
$1.60 each*6 Kraft Dressing
$3.19*Publix sugar 5 lb
$2.00 each*2 GM MultiGrain Cheerios (with a rain check)
$1.99*sliced portabella mushrooms
$2.00 each*Fresh Express Salad
$6.85*1 ribeye steak for the most wonderful husband in the world!
$2.00 each*2 Crisco spray
$1.30 each*4 Kraft Homestyle mac-n-cheese for the hubby
$1.29 each*3 travel packs Nyquil
$1.29 each*2 travel packs Dayquil
$1.29*2 cucumbers
$2.15*2 "ugly" tomato
$.75 each*2 Halls cough drops
$.85*Halls cough drops
$1.49 each*3 Quaker oatmeal
$1.45 each*4 Whole Fruit Sorbet
$.70 each*3 cans Hunts diced tomato
$1.79 each*3 cans Hormel chili
$1.10 each*6 bottles Ragu spaghetti sauce (chunky veggies)

Total before BOGO and coupons:  $123.31

Total after BOGO and coupons:  $43.76

I made a little money on the Nyquil/Dayquil and Halls which applied to the total bill to bring it down.  I got the Kraft Homestyle mac-n-cheese for $.30 each, the Kraft dressing for $1.06 a bottle (not the best price I've gotten but I NEED dressing for the 4 million salads I eat a month), the Quaker oatmeal was $.49 a box, Hunt's diced tomatoes $.20 per can, and $.49 each for the Whole Fruit Sorbet.  There were other deals but I don't remember the coupons I had and what they match up to.

How did you do this week so far?

Coupon Booklet-Publix

For the first time ever I was there when they put out a brand new coupon booklet!  It was so exciting to be the first person to take a couple out of the stand.  :-)  I watched the lady put the cardboard stand together while I was getting a rain check for Cheerios.  As I watched her it dawned on me that she was going to fill that stand with coupon booklets!  I politely asked her if it was okay if I took one even though she wasn't finished putting it together.  When I told her that normally by the time I get to displays like this all the booklets are gone she smiled, pulled another one out and handed it to me!  So sweet.

The booklet is called "Start Your Year Out With Big Savings" and is all Publix coupons which means that there will be some serious stacking going on.  They all expire on 2/13.  Here is what is in the booklet:

$3/1 any box Huggies diapers
$2.50/1 any Pull-Ups or Goodnites
$1/1 any Cottonelle toilet paper 12 pack or larger
$1/1 any Viva towels bundle pack 4-pack or larger
$3/1 package of Scott Bath tissue (6 pack or larger) AND Scott Naturals flushable moist wipes 51 ct. tub
$1.50/1 Scott towels, long lasting roll
$2/1 any package of Huggies Baby Wipes, refill 184 ct. or larger
$2/2 Kleenex facial tissue (72-260 ct.)
$2/1 Kotex or U by Kotex
$3/1 Depends or Poise
$7/2 Enfamil large powders (22.2 oz or larger)
$8/1 New Enfamil Premium refill box (35 oz) WYB Enfamil larger powder

The booklet also has a rebate in it that says if you buy $35 worth of Kimberly-Clark or Mead Johnson brands (the products listed are the ones that have coupons in this booklet) between Jan 10 and Feb 13 on ONE receipt, mail it in with the form in the booklet to receive a $10 Publix Gift Card.  This is great if you need diapers and/or Enfamil because those items can add up to $35 quickly but if you are like me you might have a tough time buying enough toilet paper and paper towels to add up to $35.  :-)  So, all you moms and dads out there don't forget about the $10 Publix Gift Card.

This is why I highly recommend you hold onto your receipts!  I have an accordion file that I put all mine in by month.  It paid off a few days ago because I was able to submit for a $20 Olay mail in rebate AND a $100 coupon booklet from P&G...all because I had my receipts from the last couple of months!

Publix Paid Me!

Yes, I stopped in Publix one more time this week and it paid off, literally!  Here's what I picked up:

4-CoffeeMate Creamers 32 oz $1.15 each
1 doz Eggland's Best Large eggs $1.88

Coupons I used:
4-$.80/1 Coffee Mate Food Lion Printable coupon
2-$1/1 Coffee Mate internet printable coupon
2-$.75/1 Coffee Mate internet printable coupon
$.50/1 Eggland's Best internet printable coupon (under normal circumstances would have been doubled)

Here's the deal:

Total Bill before discounts and coupons:  $12.37
Total coupons used:  $7.20
Publix discounts: $5.17

I walked out with .77 in my pocket that they gave me!  If I was numbers savvy I would have picked up a few more cans of Del Monte veggies that are BOGO this week in order to have even more in my pantry for a "rainy day".  Free creamer and eggs are not a bad deal!  :-)

Good Deals Get Better

When I shop online I look for coupon codes to either discount what I'm looking for or to get free shipping (I really, really dislike paying shipping).  I also go through this one particular website to get to most of the sites I shop on in order to get cash back from my purchases, even for purchases I make on Ebay.  It's called Ebates and I just got a pretty good deal on genuine HP ink for our printer.  I headed over to Ebates and searched for stores that sell ink then chose a few, including HP.com, to compare prices.  When looking over the Ebates site I noticed that there was an online code to get 40% off a second cartridge of ink.  I clicked on the HP.com link on the Ebates site and they automatically tracked what I bought.  I added what I need to my cart, plugged in the coupon code I found, got 40% the second and forth cartridge I purchased, free next day delivery, AND received a 20% cash back rebate through Ebates!  Between the 40% off, the free shipping, and the 20% rebate I spent under $20 each on brand new, non re-manufactured, genuine HP ink cartridge...2 of which are the XL or high output and 2 are tri-color.  That is the price I saw knock off or re-manufactured ink cartridges for!

Another example of why this site is so great is last year Old Navy had their carpenter jeans, Bubba's favorite jeans, on sale somewhere around $12-15 each.  I went through the Ebates site to Old Navy's site, bought him 4 pairs of jeans and ended up paying, thanks the the cash rebate, just under $10 a pair!

They have 1000s of sites that offer cash back rebates when you shop through them and several sites will post their discounts or online coupons for you to browse prior to shopping so you get both discounts!  If you enjoy saving money and you are going to shop online anyway then check out Ebates and get a few more dollars put back in your pocket!

Go HERE to see if it's something you are interested in.

Updated: Looking Back at 2010!!!

I finally entered all the receipts I could find into the spreadsheet and have my totals for 2010!  Boy am I excited to see how the year turned out!!!

Our budget for groceries for 2010 was $1680 or $35 a week.  To put this all in perspective our 2009 budget for groceries was $4420 or $85 a week.

I bought a total of $5339.12 worth of groceries (before store discounts and coupons).

I used $1994.27 in coupons.  Took advantage of $1920.83 in store discounts.  Mailed in $320.27 worth of rebates for a total savings of $4235.37!

I spent a grand total of $1424.02 for a total annual savings of 79.33%!!!  Woohoo!  For my first full year of using coupons I would say that was pretty successful!

Updated:  I found receipts for November while I was cleaning out 2010 to make room for 2011 so this is the most accurate picture of our savings for the past year.   I am looking forward to more savings in 2011!!!

How did you do?

Question For You

Here are a few questions for you:

1)  Would you like me to post a few new pictures of our current stockpiles?

2)  Do you appreciate when I post my shopping trips or are you tired of seeing what I bought?

3)  What subject haven't I covered that you would like to see me write about?

Looking forward to hearing from you!  I'm ready to take this blog in the direction YOU want to see it go.

Macon Telegraph Deal

One of the things I am asked most is where do I get coupons.  The 2 major sources for coupons are the newspaper and printing them online.  Here is something I mentioned about a year ago and it looks like the deal is still on:

I did not purchase the Macon Telegraph through this website so I do not know if it really is that price at final check out but according to the site it is $.93 per issue for the Sunday Only for 52 weeks.  I believe you must pay for the entire year in advance.  HERE is the link.

PS-I get 2 Telegraphs every Sunday and 2 Houston Home Journals on Saturday.

Saved More Than I Spent Publix Trip

I went to Publix the other day and forgot to tell you folks about it!  They had a few things on clearance that I just couldn't pass up and I didn't have any coupons for them.  :-)

2-UGA reusable shopping bags $1 each
Ronzoni Healthy Harvest Spaghetti $.90
Ronzoni Garden Delight $.89
6-Cover Girl Lipsticks $2.99 each
Cover Girl Nail Polish $1.65
2-Boxes Chanukah cards $.50 each
4-Boxes Chanukah candles $.50 each

Coupons (I'm sorry I don't remember the specifics):
$.75
$1
$1 Publix Q
3-$1
2-$2.50

Grand Total: $17.39 (used Gift Card)
Total Saved (includes BOGO & coupons) $41.47

I wouldn't have bought that make up unless it was free or close to free.  The pastas were super cheap too so in reality I paid for the little extras that I picked up!

I headed out to Rite Aid today because I wanted to pick up some more deodorant and a pack of breathe right strips for the wonderful hubby.  After pouring over the ad and Southern Savers site I finally put together a few transactions that took advantage of the deals I was interested in AND had the coupons for.  Here's what I did:

1 Motrin PM $3 (regularly $5.99)
-$1 Rite Aid Q for watching Video Values
-$6/2 WYB various products including Tylenol Precise & Motrin PM
Total Due: $1.42, paid with Gift Card

Got back $10+UP & $1+UP

That is how I got $71.35 worth of products for $6.89 out of pocket.  What am I going to do with this stuff?  The Tylenol Precise will be used by both of us when we play softball in the next couple of months.  The Motrin PM...will go in our "Cheerful Giver" box to be donated.  The deodorant went in my stash because when I get down to 5 left I feel like I'm about to run out!  The Aveeno shampoo will be utilized by my hubby who could care less what he washes his hair with.  The 2 Aveeno hand lotions will be used by me during these winter months when they tend to dry out.  I will use the Clean & Clear face scrub (although I do love my Olay ProX).  The Lubriderm will either be donated or added to my great stash of lotions.  My husband is snoozing right now with a Breathe Right strip attached to his beautiful nose and HE IS NOT SNORING!!!  :-)

I would love to know what you do with the "extra" items you buy.

How to get Kroger Mailers-Repost

I thought this was worth mentioning again:

I've had 2 folks ask me how to get the Kroger mailers that come with coupons in them.  I don't know exactly what I did to start receiving them but I will explain what you can do to assist in maybe getting them.  The first thing you need to do is sign up for a Kroger Card and you have 2 options.  You can sign up for the Kroger Loyalty card and that is all it is or you can sign up for the Kroger 1-2-3 MasterCard.  I have the plain loyalty card.  You can sign up at the Customer Service desk in the store or online at Kroger.com.  Once you sign up and have your card in hand then you can go online HERE and set up your Kroger profile.  I would fill it out as completely as possible so that when they do send you mailers you will get things relevant to you and your family. Since we don't have children I do not receive baby food or diaper coupons from Kroger.  I do receive, on occasion, pet item coupons.  If you have already done these two things and you are still not receiving Kroger mailers then I would call customer service and ask them what you need to do:  1-800-KROGERS   (1-800-576-4377).  I have interacted with Kroger customer service one time and they were very pleasant to deal with.

If you know what you did to receive Kroger coupon mailers and I didn't mention it here please comment and let everyone else know.  Thanks!

No More Rack! $10 Gift Card Free

If you sign up at No More Rack! they will give you a $10 off your first $20 purchase from their site.  It's kind of like Groupon, they post a deal a day at noon.  The deals go fast but they look good from what I've seen.  Looks addicting so be careful!

If you sign up through this link then I could win prizes.  Once you sign up you can send a link to your friends or send them here so they can sign up through me to.  If I win anything I will let you know!  More importantly is that I was able to share another deal with you guys!!!  :-)  Enjoy.

Free 8x8 Photobook from Shutterfly

I went in and did a quick 20 picture album from our Israel trip.  No one but us wants to look through 700+ pictures!  This album will be easy to share and features several of the highlights from our trip.  I paid a little over $8 in shipping fees but the book was free if you use the code.  If the code won't work for you then sign up to receive emails from them and one day you will get a code for free items!

Publix & Kroger

There was 1 item that I could not find at Kroger the other day so I ran through to see if they had restocked.

Kroger:

4-Kashi Cereal $4.49 each (regular price)

Coupons:

-$3 off
-3x$1 off

Total BEFORE discounts/coupons: $18.32
Total AFTER discounts/coupons: $2.32 for 4 boxes of cereal!!!  Not bad at all.

Publix:

4-Select Harvest Soup $2.39 each
3-Coffee Mate liquid creamer $2 each

Coupons:
-2x.50/2 Select Harvest (remember, they double)
-3x$1 off Coffee Mate creamer

Total BEFORE discounts/coupons: $16.79
Total AFTER discounts/coupons: $5.53
I still have money left on the Publix gift card I won last year so this total doesn't count towards our overall budget but I wanted to post it anyway.  The $1 off Coffee Mate creamer coupons came from the Kroger catalina machine.  Gotta love it.  :-)

Kroger Trip

Ah, it was nice to feel like I was back in the groove again.  I wish I could promise that updating this blog would be a daily thing but every time I say that...life gets in the way.  My very, very part time job is no longer very, very part time.  I'm the office manager, regardless of how small the office is, when it's your job to keep everyone organized and on task it's a real job.  I've spent the last couple months pulling things together, cleaning things up, and getting things running as smoothly as possible around there.  I still haven't recovered from our Israel trip in the sense that I don't want to be here anymore.  I'm ready, right now, to move to Jerusalem to live until I die.  Will I ever be glad to be back here again?  :-)  Things at church have been great then really bad but now I think, and pray, it's on an uphill swing.  As long as everyone keeps their eyes on Jesus then no one will sink into the raging sea but continue to walk on the water!  That over simplifies things but it's the most I'll say about it on here.
I did go to Kroger today and I thought that it was a successful trip considering I haven't seriously done coupons since September.  We have been living off, for the most part, the stockpile I had created prior to going overseas!  What a blessing it has been to only have to run to the grocery store for fresh meat and produce!  It just goes to show how the Lord will bless when you use the money He gives you to glorify Him as much as possible.
